Miss My's Fave Mags: Koti ja Keittiö

In Finland I fell in love with a guy. It happens. What doesn't happen so often is that you fall in love with a magazine. I did. My Finnish boyfriend's mom introduced me to a magazine called Koti ja Keittiö. It was love at first sight. The cover! The houses! Interior decorating tips and ideas! All that and recipes! The perfect mix for a girl who is interested in many different things.

So, when we moved to Ireland and I met Miss Mo our friendship got even stronger when we found out we both love interior decorating magazines. We developed a system. We would both buy different interior decorating magazines and after reading them we would swap them. That way we saved money (Miss Mo and I are a bit cheap) and we got to discuss things we both had read and seen. Win-win!

I have read many interior decorating magazines since and I must say that Koti ja Keittiö is special. Your first love usually is. I just love Finnish people's minimalist, practical and fuss free style. My mom is a total hamster, saves everything and hates throwing things away so my parents' house is full of stuff. L and I lived in my parents' house for a while and he always says that he gets a head ache when he looks at all my mom's 'treasures'. I guess that's why our house has very little stuff in it. And I must say I really like it this way. Easier to clean!

Miss My's Fave Movies: Pretty Woman

Movies. I love them. Well, not all of them. Boy, are there some bad ones out there! However, the movies I do love are the ones that make me laugh, cry, angry, upset, passionate and, well, feel alive.

My alltime favourite movie is Pretty Woman. It's a classic even though the plot is not completely plausible. I mean rich guy falls in love with a hooker? It could happen but it's quite unlikely. When watching the movie you feel like it's possible. Anything and everything is possible in Hollywood. When watching the movie you feel that if you were a hooker (it could happen) you could be swept off your feet by a rich, goodlooking, funny man with a limousine and a driver. You also feel that you could be waiting for him at the bar of a hotel. He is late. When he arrives you say "you're late" and he says "you're stunning" and you say "you're forgiven". I am sure that has happened in real life. Really. To someone other than me.

My favourite things about the movie are the chemistry between Edward (the rich guy) and Vivian (the hooker) and the dialogue. The chemistry. I have never seen anything like it and I have watched a lot of movies. Julia Roberts is so spontaneous and funny when playing Vivian. You can tell Jules is really funny in real life and it makes you want to be her friend. I wouldn't mind going on a shopping spree with her and have the 'really offensive' bill paid by Edward. The dialogue. I have never seen anything wittier!

My least favourite thing about the movie is Edward's friend, Philip Stuckey. He is so awful I think of him as Sucky Stuckey. Just watch the movie and you will agree with me. He is one nasty character.

I could go on and on about this movie but I think you should just rent it and watch it with a group of girlfriends and some serious snacks. You will laugh, cry, feel moved and alive. And you will be quoting lines from the movie for the rest of your life. Just ask my friends. They are sick of it by now.

Dreamy dream house

As far as dream houses go this is one of the dreamiest I have ever seen. It is a villa located by a lake in the center of Savonlinna. It was built in 1916 and almost fully renovated in 2009. I just love the combination of old and new. The location, the beams, the fireplaces, the floors, the large windows and the quirky exterior. There is just so much to love about the house. Oh, if only I would win the lottery. Until then I can just look at the pictures. Here is something for you to dream about:

Sängyn päätyjä

Sängyn päätyjä on monia erilaisia ja mielikuvituksellisia. Joskus taustaksi riittää tehostevärillä maalattu seinä tai tapetti. Seinälle voi lisäksi asetella hyllyn tai pari ja laittaa esille kuvia, kirjoja tai koriste-esineitä.

Meidän seinää koristaa miehen taiteilema musta aurinko oranssilla taustalla.

Sängyn päädyn voi askarrella itse vähällä rahalla.

Joyful Christmas Markets in Finland

It's November. December is fastly approaching and I know what you're thinking. Christmas markets!!! I love a good Christmas market but I'm never sure when and where the good ones are. So I have compiled a list of some of the most popular Christmas markets in Finland.

St. Thomas Christmas Market, Senate Square, Helsinki
Description: There are over 120 stalls at the St Thomas Christmas Market selling eg. crafts, baked goods and other Christmas specialities.
Event time: 7.-22.12.2012
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10–19 and Sat-Sun 10–18

Christmas Market, Old Great Square, Turku
Description: On four weekends, the Old Great Square offers activities for the entire family. In the festive sales stands you can find skilfully hand-crafted products and Christmas treats. In addition to the sales stands, the marketplace will be full of Christmas performances, gingerbread scent and music.

Säästökuuri, osa 2: ASP-tili

Uutisissa on viime aikoina ollut pelottelua asuntolainakatosta, joka vaikeuttaisi nuorten lainan saantia. Finanssivalvonta on saamassa valtuudet päättää sitovasta lainakatosta, joka vastaisi jopa 80 % asunnon käyvästä arvosta. Ostajalla pitäisi olla omaa rahoitusta loppuosa asunnon hinnasta. Esimerkiksi 150,000 euron hintaisen asunnon ostamiseksi pitäisi olla 15,000 euron säästöt. Kuinka monella nuorella on tällaisia summia tilillä?

Eilen käväisin pankissa ja avasin ASP-säästötilin. Mietin asiaa jo aikaisemmin syksyllä. Silloin luin pikaisesti tilin ehdot, joiden mukaan tilille pitää säästää vähintään kahden vuoden ajan ennen kuin ASP-laina myönnetään. Ajattelin, että turha juttu, en jaksa odottaa kahta vuotta. Kiitos Miss My:n, päätin tutustua asiaan uudelleen. Aikani nettimaailmassa surffailtuani löysinkin etsimäni ja toivomani poikkeuksen sääntöön, jonka pankkivirkailija minulle vahvisti hetken papereita selattuaan. Tapauskohtaisesti voidaan myöntää laina jo vuoden jälkeen:

”Asunto voidaan hankkia, kun vähintään puolet sopimuksen mukaisista eristä on talletettu. Väliaikaisesta rahoituksesta sovitaan erikseen pankin kanssa.”

Luultavasti tässä tapauksessa lainalle pitäisi saada aluksi takaajat, mutta vain siihen asti, kunnes kaksi vuotta tulee täyteen. Lähtökohtaisesti en takaajia haluaisi, mutta lyhyeksi aikaa se ei varmastikaan olisi ongelma.

ASP-tilin ehdot:

Pitää olla 18-30 –vuotias
Pitää säästää vähintään kahdeksan vuosineljänneksen aikana ja vähintään 10 % hankittavan asunnon hinnasta saadakseen ASP-järjestelmän edut. Loput saa ASP-asuntolainana.
Tilille kalenterivuosineljänneksittäin tehtävien talletusten on oltava suuruudeltaan vähintään 150 € ja enintään 3000 €

Tein sopimuksen, jonka mukaan päätililtäni lähtee jokaisen kuukauden ensimmäinen päivä tietty summa rahaa ASP-tilille. Ensimmäinen erä menee joulukuussa. Nyt kun avasin tilin marraskuussa, ja talletin sinne jo loka- ja marraskuuta vastaavan summan, tulee ensi kuussa jo ensimmäinen vuosineljännes täyteen. Tulemme ottamaan omat erilliset lainat, eli minä säästän ASP-tililleni oman lainaosuuteni, 50 % asunnon hinnasta. Ahkeralla säästämisellä pääsisin asunnon ostoon aikaisintaan syys/lokakuussa 2013, tämä siis poikkeustapauksessa. Virallista kahden vuoden aikaa noudattaen se olisi syyskuu 2014. ASP-tilin hyödyt:

5 %:n veroton korkotuotto ennakkosäästöille
Korkotuki: valtio maksaa lainaan korkotukea 70 % siitä osasta lainan korkoa, mikä ylittää 3,8 % 10 ensimmäisen lainavuoden aikana.
ASP-lainan korko on edullisempi kuin tavallisen ensiasuntolainan
Lainan vakuudeksi riittää yleensä ostettava asunto yhdessä valtion asuntolainatakauksen kanssa.
Sopimus voidaan siirtää missä vaiheessa tahansa toiseen pankkiin tai ottaa ASP-laina muusta kuin talletuspankista.

ASP-tili kannustaa nuoria säästämään ja ajattelemaan tulevaisuutta. Lainakatossa on sama ajatus, sillä sen idea on hillitä velkaantumista eli sillä suojeltaisiin lainanottajia. Nähtäväksi jää, tuleeko lainakatto voimaan ja missä mittakaavassa. Säästäminen kannattaa joka tapuksessa.

Ja lopuksi: tili ei sido mihinkään, eli jos päädymmekin ostamaan aikaisemmin, kuin ehdot täyttyvät, saan rahat tililtä ja sillä selvä. Haittaa ei siis ole. Alun perin ajatuksena oli katsastaa tulevaa kotia ensi kesänä, mutta eihän sitä tiedä kauan ”sen oikean” löytämisessä menee.
